Fact family games and activities

Play a quick fact family game online: ten questions, one empty circle in each triangle, and the whole family shown after every answer. Below the game you will find offline fact family games and activities for the classroom and home.

The game runs in your browser. It does not ask for a name or email, and it does not save scores.

Fact family games to play without a screen

Roll and write

Roll two dice. Write the numbers in the bottom of a blank triangle, add them for the top and write the four facts. The first player to complete five triangles wins.

Triangle flash card duel

Print and cut out fact family triangles. One player covers a corner and the other names the hidden number. Correct answers keep the card. The player with the most cards wins.

Fact family bingo

Make 3 by 3 bingo cards with numbers from 2 to 20. Call out a fact family, such as “3, 5 and 8”, and children cover any number from that family that is on their card.

Missing number memory

Make cards of facts with missing numbers, such as 6 + ? = 15, and a second set with the answers. Lay them face down and match each fact to its answer.

Build the house

Give each group a fact family house and a set of number cards. They race to build a correct house, then write the four facts.

Activities for the whole class

• Human fact families. Three children hold number cards and stand in a triangle. The class calls out the facts.
• Sort the facts. Give small groups twelve fact cards that make three families. They sort them into groups of four.
• Write a story. Ask children to write a story problem for a fact family and trade with a partner.
