What is on these worksheets?

Each problem gives three numbers, such as 6, 9 and 15. Children complete 6 + 9, 9 + 6, 15 − 6 and 15 − 9. In the triangle style they fill in one missing number instead. In the house style they write all four facts for the numbers in the roof and rooms.

A simple path from easy to harder

  1. Sums up to 10, complete the triangle. Builds the idea of parts and wholes.
  2. Sums up to 10, complete each family of facts. Adds the four equations.
  3. Sums up to 20. Matches the second grade goal of fluency within 20.
  4. Sums up to 100. For children ready to apply the idea to larger numbers.

Tips

  • Link each sheet to a number bond picture or a fact family house.
  • Ask children to explain why 9 + 6 and 6 + 9 give the same answer.
